Leslie Inskip was a member of Beamish Park Golf Club for 57 years, having joined the club in 1967. He was made Captain of the club in 1985 and was elected as Club Chairman, serving from 1990 to 1997.

Les’s deeper involvement in golf in Durham increased when he was elected to join the Executive Committee of Durham County Golf Union in 1987. During his 37-year service to the County, he was appointed as Honorary Treasurer in 1988, a position he held till  2015, becoming the longest serving Treasurer in the County’s history. During this time, Les was also the County Secretary, fulfilling the role  from 1991 till 1997.

He also gave his time and experience to serve in other positions outside of the DCGU Committee, serving as President of The North Durham League in 1998 and Captain of The Durham County Past Captains Society in 2013.

Les became President of The Durham County Golf Union  for 1999-2000, presiding over the County into the new millennium.

Les was a magnificent servant to golf and the golfers of County Durham. His knowledge, expertise and guidance over many years will be his legacy to us all, and he will be sorely missed.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of DCGU Past-President, Les Inskip will take place at

12 pm on Friday 11th October 2024

Saltwell Crematorium

Saltwell Road South

The service will be followed by a reception at Beamish Park Golf Club.

The family have requested that flowers are not gifted or brought on the day. However, if anyone would like to make a monetary donation in lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations should be made to the Marie Curie registered charity.

Thank you.
